Maggs Day Centre puts down roots with local food producer CP Foods
August 2011
Staff at CP Foods’ Hartlebury office are working alongside Maggs Day Centre in Worcester as part of its growing CP Charity Partnership programme in the region.
Maggs Day Centre is an open-door, free-access day centre in Worcester, catering for anyone who is homeless, isolated or lonely across Worcestershire and is the only centre of its kind in the county.
Following a recent visit to Maggs Day Centre, the team at CP kick started their partnership initiative at the centre’s allotment in August with a plant-out day.
Gloria Blount, part of the CP Charity Partnership says: “The plot is 13 x 11m, with plenty of extra space for creating our own compost. We’re asking staff and supporters to raid their sheds to see if they have any spare tools to donate. Forks, spades, canes, hosepipes, wheelbarrows, planters, watering cans, netting, and most importantly; any seeds for winter crops we can sow! The ground is rotivated, ready for planting and looking for all types of vegetables and herbs; we hope cabbage, broccoli, kale, winter salad leaves, squash, leek and Brussel sprouts will be on the menu come Christmas.”
Staff at CP Foods are also gathering up unwanted clothes for the centre in good time, before the weather starts to turn.
Melanie Kirk, Service Manager at Maggs Day Centre comments, “After last year’s bitter winter, we want to be as prepared as possible. We’re looking for men’s shoes, socks, jeans, trousers as well as waterproofs and winter fleeces for our visitors. The team at CP have been more than supportive and we’re looking forward to working with the CP Charity Partnership this year.”
